About me
Dr. Regina-Celeste Ahmad is a pediatric dermatologist who cares for patients in both the clinic and the hospital. She performs skin surgeries and laser procedures for children with benign or cancerous skin growths, moles and vascular birthmarks (areas of skin discoloration caused by abnormal blood vessels). She is an expert in inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (eczema), lupus, morphea (a type of scleroderma), dermatomyositis (diseases that cause muscle weakness and skin rashes) and vitiligo (an autoimmune disease causing loss of skin pigment). Also a dedicated medical educator, she directs dermatology education for the pediatric residency program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.
Ahmad's research focuses on autoimmune diseases, particularly those that involve the skin, muscles and joints. To improve diagnosis and management of these diseases, she helped found multiple pediatric clinics bringing together experts in dermatology and rheumatology and she participates in national multicenter research studies. Her interests also include sustainable health care practices and better access to subspecialty care for underserved populations.
Ahmad earned her medical degree and doctorate at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed residencies in pediatrics and dermatology at Stanford University, followed by a fellowship in pediatric dermatology at UCSF.
