About me
Dr. Karyn Austin is a pediatric electrophysiologist, a specialist in treating cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) in children, young adults and adults with congenital heart disease. Her expertise includes catheter ablation (a procedure that treats irregular heartbeats) and the placement and management of cardiac devices, such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators. She also specializes in the care of patients with inherited arrhythmia conditions, such as long QT syndrome.
Her research focuses on the genetics of inherited arrhythmias and how to use that information to personalize treatment plans for patients and their families.
She earned her medical degree and a doctorate in genetics at Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in pediatrics, a fellowship in pediatric cardiology and a fellowship in pediatric electrophysiology and inherited arrhythmias at Boston Children's Hospital, where she also served as chief fellow in cardiology. She is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society, Pediatric and Congenital Electrophysiology Society and American Heart Association.
