About me

Dr. Jordan Virbalas is a pediatric otolaryngologist with a special interest in evaluating and improving children's airways and ability to swallow. He cares for patients with disorders of the head and face, such as cleft lip, cleft palate and microtia (a birth defect of the ear), and performs surgeries to address the complex airway, speech and hearing problems that can be part of these conditions. As director of the UCSF Aerodigestive Clinic, he works with the pulmonary, gastroenterology and speech therapy departments to help children with complex breathing and swallowing disorders.

Virbalas earned his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College. He completed a residency in otolaryngology â head and neck surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Children's Hospital Colorado.

Virbalas is a member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology, American Academy of Otolaryngology â Head and Neck Surgery, and American Academy of Pediatrics. Each year, he travels to Peru to provide surgical and other medical care for children with birth defects of the face and head, such as cleft lip and cleft palate.

Virbalas used to be an elementary school teacher. He has a master's degree in teaching and formerly taught at a school in the Bronx.
