About me

Alison J. Nachman is an audiologist who specializes in caring for children with hearing loss. She conducts pediatric audiology testing, and when she diagnoses hearing loss, she guides families through decision making on interventions. When hearing aids alone cannot provide enough access to speech, she continues working with patients and their families to determine whether the child is a good candidate for cochlear implants or other interventions that provide access to spoken or visual language.

Nachman has developed a comprehensive approach for managing auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD), a condition in which the inner ear can detect sound but there's a problem with transmitting those sound signals to the brain. She offers guidance to other health care providers on how best to help patients with ANSD, and has presented her work at conferences and is researching the benefits of this novel management approach.

After earning a master's degree in audiology at San Francisco State University, Nachman earned her doctor of audiology degree at Central Michigan University. She holds bachelor's degrees in deaf studies and communicative disorders.

Nachman is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She is on the executive board of the California Academy of Audiology, serving as secretary.

Outside of work, Nachman enjoys spending time in nature and with family and friends. She also loves to travel.
